One of the most awaited films of the year, Bucket List marks the Marathi film debut of Hindi cinema's golden girl Madhuri Dixit Nene. The expectations are high and we must say the trailer is definitely fun to watch.
The trailer the gives away major plot points and details about the story. Dixit Nene plays the role of Madhura Sane, a 40-year-old housewife who spends every day attending to her children, husband and in-laws, without focusing on herself. Sane has a heart condition and a young organ donor named Sai, saves her life. When Sane meets the girl's parents and learns that Sai died without checking activities on her bucket list (which she had written in her diary), Madhura takes it upon herself to complete it on her behalf.
The story bears an uncanny resemblence to Lindsay Harrel's book The Heart Between Us, where a 28-year-old born with a defective heart undergoes a heart transplant. When she feels guilty that she isn’t making full use of her new found good health, she decides to meet the family of the heart donor to express her appreciation. The donor’s parents give her the donor's old diary, which also includes a bucket list. She then sets out to fulfill the donor's wishes.
Interestingly, the script of Bucket List was locked over a year ago, which is much before the book's release in March this year. So the similarities are only a strange coincidence.
There is no doubt that Dixit Nene has an author-backed role which has a great emotional arc along with several fun and entertaining moments along the way.
A sneak peek into the diary as Sane turns its pages in the trailer had us peering into what her challenges would include. Going bald, getting a tattoo, scuba diving, walking in a bikini on a beach and adopting a pet seem to be items that Sai has already ticked off her bucket list. The ones that remain unfulfilled and will see Dixit-Nene pursue activities like biking to Leh-Ladakh, going viral (Dixit-Nene innocently asks 'when people say they are going viral where exactly are they going), making her mom complete her poem and dance performance in front of a large crowd, among others.
The film has a big star cast. Apart from Dixit-Nene there are Renuka Shahane (playing the role of the organ donor's mother), Dilip Prabhavalkar, Sumeet Raghvan, Shubha Khote, among others. And then there's Ranbir Kapoor in a cameo, because guess what, Sai's wishlist includes meeting the star.
Directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, Bucket List is slated to be released on 25 May.
