Here's why Ali Fazal signed Sanjay Dutt's Prasthanam remake without reading the script

Recently, actor Ali Fazal signed on to play an important role in the Hindi remake of the Telugu film, Prasthanam (2010), starring actor Sanjay Dutt, and helmed by the film's original director Deva Katta. The actor will be seen playing Dutt’s son in the film. 

Fazal, who was last seen in the box office success Fukrey Returns (2017), though signed on the dotted line without reading the script. And the reason for that was the original's cult classic reputation and the presence of his favourite star, Dutt. Fazal only heard the gist of the story before giving his final nod. 

"It’s a remake of a cult classic. And Deva helming the film was a great reason to come on board. I met the team once and loved what I heard. As an actor sometimes you go with your instinct of the film and the part you play," he says.

But the top reason why he was super excited to come on board the project was Dutt's presence. Fazal has been a huge fan of the star.

"To top this, Sanjay Dutt who’s an iconic name whom I have grown up watching and been a fan of, was a great reason to be on board without a second thought. And plus it’s a father-son duo, (which) actors would love to dive into," he adds.

The icing on the cake was that the role turned out to be an important one in the script and would offer the actor the chance to show a different facet to the audience. 

The film, also stars actress Manisha Koirala, who will be playing Dutt's wife. Prasthanam, a 2010 political thriller and family drama, was made on a low buget of around Rs3.18 crore and went on to become a cult success solely on word of mouth. 

Prasthanam is being produced by Sanjay Dutt Productions, marking the actor’s return to production after seven years (Rascal, which was released in 2011 was his last production). The film is slated to go on the floors tomorrow, on the ocassion of Dutt's mother Nargis's birth anniversary.
