National Award-winning director Suseenthiran, who was among the first to make sports-based movies in Tamil, has begun work on his next sports film, Champion.

It may be recalled that Suseenthiran's first film, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu (2009), was based on the sport of kabaddi. The film was based on a real life incident and went on to emerge a superhit. After making a couple of more movies, Suseenthiran then made Jeeva (2014), a film which was on the sport of cricket.

Now, the filmmaker has begun his third sports film, titled Champion. Sources close to the unit say that the film is based on the sport of football.

Says a source, "The film went on floors today. Actor and producer GK Reddy officially kickstarted the proceedings by switching on the camera for the first shot of this film. The entire cast and crew was present on the occasion. The film will feature Roshan, an actor who is making his debut, in the lead along with another new comer called Mrinalini, who plays the female lead."

The film will also feature GK Reddy, Anjathey fame Naren, Jayaprakash, RK Suresh and Harish Uthaman. Arrol Corelli will score the music for this film and Sujith Sarang will be the cinematographer.

"Indian Football Champion Raman Vijayan has been roped in by the team to give suggestions," the source adds.
