Adapting television shows for the big screen, as in the case of Rajiv Mehra's Chala Mussaddi: Office Office (2011) and Aatish Kapadia's Khichdi: The Movie (2010), is not something new. But producer Ekta Kapoor has now decided to reverse the equation.

She is all set to adapt Karan Johar’s multi-starrer blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001) into a TV show, titled Dil Hi Toh Hai, as per a report in Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid.

The film tells the story of a family that faces troubles and misunderstandings when their adopted son marries a girl from a lower socio-economic group.

The report also states that actor Bijay Anand will essay the role of Yashovardhan Raichand, played by Amitabh Bachchan in the film.

Anand's last Hindi film was Anees Bazmee’s Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), where he played Rahul Bajaj, the fiancé of Kajol's Sanjana. Apart from a couple of television shows, Anand was rarely seen onscreen as he moved towards spirituality and eventually became a Yoga teacher.

The actor recently made a comeback to films after 20 years with a supporting role in Sanjay Jadhav’s Marathi film Ye Re Ye Re Paisa (2018).

Reports also suggest that television actors Rajat Tokas and Varun Sood will take up the characters played by Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in the film. Actress Erica Fernandes is reportedly being considered to reprise either Kajol or Kareena Kapoor Khan’s characters.
