The last rites of veteran actress Geeta Kapoor were performed late Sunday night, 30 hours after her death on Saturday morning. Her daughter Aradhya and sisters came forward to do the needful after appeals were made by her caretakers, Ashoke Pandit, CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) member and Ramesh Taurani, head honcho of music and film production house Tips Limited.
Kapoor was abandoned last year by her son, Raja, after admitting her to a hospital. He is absconding since. It was during this time that Pandit, Taurani and others offered to help and got her admitted into an old age home. Kapoor was still hopeful of meeting her son.
Hence, after she passed away, Pandit had urged that her son or someone from the family come forward to perform her last rites. Raja never showed up and finally, Kapoor's daughter Aradhya came forward and performed her last rites.
However, Pandit is upset that he and other caretakers weren’t informed about Kapoor’s last rites being performed by her family. “The daughter & sisters of late actress #GeetaKapoor Ji performed her last rites, late last night. Even though Dr. Tripathi, Old Age Home sisters, #ArchanaShourie & I requested them to inform us so that we, who stood by her pain, are part of her last journey. But they didn’t. Sad! [sic],” he said on his Twitter page.
Speaking to us on Saturday, Pandit had said that in case nobody from her family came forward, they would perform her last rites with respect. “We will call a lot people and will make sure she gets a good send off,” he had said.
Kapoor was known for her role in Kamal Amrohi’s classic Pakeezah (1972).
