Land 1857 trailer: Out-of-the-box subject makes Shashank Shende-starrer interesting

The title of director Sudhir’s, Land 1857, could mislead the audience into believing that it's a film based on the 1857 mutiny against the British. Interestingly, the number is not a year, but the population of the village the film is set in.

In Chumbland, the villagers lead a laid-back life, carrying out their daily chores and minding their own business. One day, they are treated to a big announcement — a national highway road will be built through the village. The simple folk are elated, sensing the business opportunities and additional income the road would bring with it.

However, the local opportunistic politician (Shashank Shende) looks at the development with a selfish motive for himself and his party. He starts exploiting the people and violence ensues. Shende is the only one who receives good footage in the trailer. He is having a good run at the movies currently.

The trailer is cut simply, but gets you interested in the film's story. Many stories set in interior villages of Maharashtra have been well treated and received in Marathi cinema. The technical aspects of the film leave a lot to be desired.

Produced under the banner of Vijayalaxmi Film Productions, Land 1857 will be out in theatres on 8 June.
