The official teaser of Debaloy Bhattacharya’s upcoming film Bidaay Byomkesh was launched by SVF Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. yesterday (25 May). The film reportedly presents the story of the aged Bengali sleuth played by Abir Chatterjee.
The teaser begins with a reference to the birth year of Byomkesh Bakshi. Then it gradually shows the titles of various stories from Byomkesh series written by legendary author Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, like Rakter Daag, Shajarur Kanta, Chiriyakhana and more, along with a montage of sequences leading to a shot of Byomkesh Samagro and slowly builds up the suspense regarding the plot of the film.
Eventually the teaser shifts to the present year and bit by bit, reveals the aged Satyanweshi, who seems to have retired from his quest for truth.
The film is said to be focusing on the detective’s personal journey through his investigations over the years. In the film, Chatterjee also plays the role of Satyaki Bose, the grandson of Byomkesh. The character of Satyaki has been originally introduced by the director and does not take from Bandyopadhyay's works.
Whether the Byomkesh saga comes to an end or Satyaki marks a new beginning carrying forward his grandfather’s legacy, remains at the crux of the mystery.
Though Bhattacharya has reportedly given a completely new angle to the thriller, the teaser implies there will be ample references from the stories of Byomkesh series as well.
Apart from Chatterjee, who is also playing the Bengali sleuth in upcoming Byomkesh Pawrbo produced by SVF, the film also features Sohini Sarkar, Joy Sengupta, Bidipta Chakroborty, Rahul Banerjee, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and Arindam Sil in important roles.
