Director Vikramaditya Motwane has revealed why he couldn't make Bhavesh Joshi: Superhero with his first choice, Imran Khan. Bhavesh Joshi: Superhero is set to be released on 1 June.

"With Imran [Khan], the timing was bad. His career was not in a position where people were willing to invest the kind of money I needed to make the film. It came to a point where it didn’t work out," Motwane told Reuters news agency.

Shahid Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra were other names tossed around for the leading role.

The director still believes that Khan was the right man for the role. “It is sad because Imran would have been great for the role. I still believe he was perfect for the role because he had that innocence and wonder and you feel this is a guy who wants to do the right thing,” said Motwane.

Khan’s last hit was Dharma Productions’ Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012). His subsequent five films tanked at the box office.

While he missed out on Bhavesh Joshi: Superhero, Khan was touted to return with Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Milan Talkies, which is another project that has taken a while to get going. Sadly for Khan, he is no longer associated with Milan Talkies after Dhulia roped in Ali Fazal.

In 2016, Khan was tipped to feature in Gulaal (2009) actor Raj Singh Chaudhary’s directorial debut, but there has been no development since. Khan was last seen on the big screen in Katti Batti (2015).
