After successfully turning producer with Pad Man (2018), former actress-turned-producer Twinkle Khanna was keen to adapt the book A Man Called Ove by Swedish author Fredrik Backman. However, Khanna will have to wait after learning that Hollywood actor Tom Hanks has obtained the rights for the American remake.

A Man Called Ove was first made into a Swedish film by director by Hannes Holm in 2015. The Swedish film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling categories at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017.

“I read the Man called Ove and wrote to the publishers wanting to adapt it for a movie but unfortunately, Tom Hanks had already bought the rights and it will be out in 2019, so I will have to start looking for something else now,” Khanna told IndianExpress.com.

Khanna floated her production house Mrs Funnybones Movies and co-produced Pad Man, featuring her husband, Akshay Khanna. The film is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a man to devised a machine to produce cheap sanitary pads for women in his village. Pad Man was released in February this year.
