Actress Taapsee Pannu has switched from being a plaintiff in Pink (2016) to playing a lawyer in the upcoming court drama, Mulk.
In Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's National award-winning film Pink, Pannu played the fierce Minal Arora in one of her more hard-hitting roles. The social drama highlighted the stigma and hardship a young, independent woman has to face in India.
In Mulk, which is due to be released on 27 July, Pannu will be playing a lawyer, Aarti. She stars with Rishi Kapoor, Prateik, Rajat Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Pahwa and Neena Gupta. The first still from the film shows her with Rishi Kapoor. Perhaps her character represents him in court.

The picture shows a few members of the cast in a tense moment from the film. Neena Gupta and Rajat Kapoor can be seen in the audience, watching the events unfold in the court. Rishi Kapoor looks concerned while Pannu has determination written all over her face.
The actress's tweet referred to the film being a "relevant topic of current time", suggesting that it might be exploring the deep religious divide that has been growing in India.
Director Anubhav Sinha has called Mulk "the most important film" of his career till date. Sinha made his debut with Tum Bin (2001) and has since directed Ra.One (2011) and produced Gulaab Gang (2014). Mulk, filmed in Lucknow, is produced by Deepak Mukut and Anubhav Sinha.
