Bhavesh Joshi Superhero trailer: Harshvardhan Kapoor fights for justice in vigilante story

Phantom Films today released the trailer of Harshvardhan Kapoor's long overdue film, Bhavesh Joshi Superhero.

If the film's teaser, which was released last week, was intriguing, the trailer adds to the intrigue.

Bhavesh Joshi is not your conventional superhero blessed with superpowers. A common young Mumbaikar, circumstances force him to become a vigilante superhero.

Joshi (Harshvardhan Kapoor) and his idealistic young friends are sick and tired of the corruption in Mumbai. They turn themselves into crusaders against corruption, hiding their identities with paper bags and exposing the corruption on the streets through YouTube.

The young men even give themselves a silly name, Insaaf, which means 'justice'. Their videos, quirky and funny, are a platform to expose the nexus between corrupt politicians and contractors.

One such action, however, leads them deep into the murky world of the politician-criminal nexus, and the idealists are soon hunted by gangsters. From being hailed as crusaders, they are labelled terrorists by the corrupt politician (played by Nishikant Kamat). Joshi, though, emerges from the beating to not only avenge the assault but also serve justice.

The punchline, “Hero paida nahi hota, banta hai [A hero is not born, he is made]", appears to define the film's story.

Director Vikramaditya Motwane seems to have etched some fine subplots that lead to the original story of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero. While the trailer gives out the prime plot easily, it is likely that Motwane has some suspense hidden within the subplots.

Harshvardhan Kapoor, who returns to the big screen after his not-so-memorable debut in Mirzya (2016), stands out with his LED-lit masked costume. But the actor does not quite make the same impact in tone that you would normally associate with a 'superhero' character. Perhaps because he is not a comic book hero.

Kapoor's look and the bike may make you draw comparisons with Street Hawk (1985), but that is where the similarity ends.

The trailer is gripping even if not outstanding. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero certainly seems to have an intriguing tale to tell. Of the cast, it is Kali Prasad Mukherjee who stuns you with his intensity. Though you can’t see the victim of his assault, he looks to be striking Harshvardhan Kapoor's character with his hammer.

Given the ever-increasing corruption and crimes, the country could do with a Bhavesh Joshi Superhero right now.  Watch the trailer below.
