European Union honours Amitabh Bachchan


The Indian actor was honoured for his contribution to cinema and also for taking up social causes.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan was honoured by the European Union at the Europe Day celebrations in Mumbai last evening. The actor has been honoured for his contribution to Indian cinema. Europe Day was celebrated on 9 May.

"A decoration again from the EU, the European Union on Europe Day celebration, to felicitate me with a Citation .. humbling and gratified," Bachchan posted on his blog.

"Such is the nature of these events that are most humbling and filled with gratitude .. it makers me want to run away from it all, but certain obligations need to be accepted .. and so I did," added the Indian actor.

Bachchan also posted a picture of the citation that read: “Amitabh Bachchan has been a great exponent in the art of acting and a master of his craft. He has been an inspiration to the film industry and through it to the millions of people in his country and across the globe. As a consummate professional who combines art with ethic, he is a role model for all generations."

"Cinematic Art has been a great bridge builder between the people of Europe and India. While EU has supported annual European Union Film Festival for many years, numerous Indian films been shot in Europe including many of Mr Bachchan’s. These films are like a window for the broader public to a distant continent, allowing a glimpse of the beauty and the cultural heritage of both our entities," the citation read.

The actor was also appreciated for his social deeds.

Bachchan was last seen in 102 Not Out that has been received well by critics and audiences alike.
