We have seen many a sports-films before that required its protagonists to fight against all odds and win a gold with sheer dedication and hardwork. Most notable recent examples are Sultan (2016), Dangal (2016) and Mukkabaaz (2017).
The trailer of director Santosh Manjrekar’s new Marathi movie, Bedhadak, represents a similar story. However, it should be noted that the genre has been hardly tried in Marathi cinema.
Bedhadak introduces actor Girish Taware. He plays Ajay, a tough, young guy who breathes and lives to box. His ambition is to earn name and fame in the sport, but has a major, quite predictable, obstacle in his path — politics.
Actress Namrata Gaikwad will play the female lead who supports and cares for Ajay.
Even if you ignore the fact that there seems to be nothing new in the film, the trailer is unimpressive remains itself. It lacks continuity, and newcomer Taware holds no promise.
Bedhadak will be released on 1 June.
