Box office: Raazi emerges a hit in first week, earns Rs55 crore

As no big Hindi film is being released today, it has a chance of earning well even in its second weekend.

After registering good business in the first weekend, Raazi, starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, continued its steady run in the weekdays. The film, directed by Meghna Gulzar, has earned an impressive Rs55.75 to Rs56 crore approximately in its first week, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.

Raazi has become the fifth highest grossing film in the first week in 2018. Interestingly, it has earned around Rs10 crore more than the runaway hit Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. That film went on to earn over Rs100 crore in India.

Raazi has also become the second highest earning film in the first week with a strong female lead. The first position is held by the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), which made Rs69.16 crore in its first week. The 2015 film also had actor R Madhavan in the lead.

Raazi has easily overtaken Priyanka Chopra-starrer Mary Kom (2014), which had made Rs45.33 crore in its first week.

The film is made at a budget of around Rs40 crore. It has sailed into profits smoothly. As no big Hindi film is being released today, it has a chance of earning well even in its second weekend.

Its only opposition could be the Hollywood frachise film, Deadpool 2, which has a fair amount of buzz in India. The Hindi version will see Ranveer Singh as the voice of Deadpool, the lead character.
