Actor Jisshu Sengupta will soon be seen in Parambrata Chatterjee’s upcoming directorial Shonar Pahar. In a press conference, on 17 May, the actor shared his experience of working in the film.
“The story of Shonar Pahar is very close to my heart. The story reflects the relationship both I and Param had with our mothers,” he said.

Reportedly, Sengupta was in tears when the director narrated the story of the film. He was asked to chose between two characters — Soumya, the son of Upama (played by veteran actress Tanuja) and Rajdeep, Soumya’s friend. “I took a fraction of a second and told Param that I wanted to play the role of Soumya. He smiled since he had guessed my course of thought beforehand,” exclaimed Sengupta. The character of Rajdeep was eventually played by the director himself.
“This film is a journey to relive my life, the moments with my mother. Thanks to Param, I could play a climax, which I wish I had in my personal life,” said the actor, who lost his mother in 2008.

He also expressed his gratitude for actress Tanuja for accepting the role of Upama. According to the actor, Tanuja supported him while shooting a sequence in which Sengupta could not help but shed real tears.
“I think all young men will be able to relate to the story of the film. It is not only a story about a mother and a son, but also of the child artiste Bitlu. In fact, Bitlu is the one who opens up the eyes of the other characters to understand the value of relationships,” said Sengupta, adding, “The film is about an emotional journey of a mother, son, his wife and also of a friend, who from the centre watches all the incidents and helps all the characters understand their positions in life.”
Shonar Pahar is scheduled to be released on 8 June.
