Disha Patani to play trapeze artist in Salman Khan's Bharat

The film already stars Priyanka Chopra opposite Khan and, reportedly, Patani will play the second female lead.

After tasting success with Baaghi 2 (2018), actress Disha Patani has now landed herself in an even bigger project — Salman Khan’s keenly awaited Bharat.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, the actress will play a trapeze artist, working in a circus in the 1960s.

The film already stars Priyanka Chopra opposite Khan and, reportedly, Patani will play the second female lead. The role will require her to train in the art of trapeze.

Speaking about Patani’s selection, director Ali Abbas Zafar told the tabloid, “The pairing of Salman and Disha in a circus set-up in the 1960s is unusual and exciting. She is a promising star and for this character, we needed a girl who looked vulnerable and beautiful yet had the physicality of an athlete. Disha fit the bill perfectly.”

He added that the 'circus set-up' in the film is his tribute to Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker (1970).

Patani is, obviously, overjoyed by her casting. “I am excited to be a part of Bharat. It’s like a dream come true to get an opportunity to work with Salman sir and I can’t wait for the journey to begin. I am a big fan of Ali Abbas sir’s work,” she said.

Bharat is the official remake of Korean film Ode To My Father (2014), which showcased Korean history. In Bharat, Khan’s character will look at the history of India, from 1947 to the modern time.
