Eventually he did not win the award, but it was still a matter of pride for Anupam Kher and for India when he was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for the BBC TV drama The Boy With The Topknot at the recent BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards.
While Kher missed out, he posted a classy video on Twitter, thanking BAFTA, his director, and his personal team.
"Thank you, BAFTA, for the Best Supporting Actor nomination for The Boy With The Topknot. It's a great honour for me, for a Hindi-medium-educated boy from a small town in India, whose father was a clerk in the forest department. It is a fantastic achievement to be nominated among the top actors in the world," the actor said.
"I was not announced as winner of the four nominees this evening, but, nevertheless, I feel humbled and honoured. There is always a next time."
Kher lost out to Brían F O’Byrne, who won the award for Little Boy Blue.
