It has been a long wait for Salman Khan fans. He added to the hype around Race 3 by first deliberately posting the trailer of the two previous films from the Race franchise. Khan joins the third installment of the action thriller franchise.
Khan brings with him his stardom, power-packed dialogues, and oodles of swag. At 52, it may be difficult to perform your own stunts, but what we see in the trailer is palpable — riding from under a fallen tree, wingsuit flying off a cliff from a truck, etc.
Khan has quite a few punchlines, and the one stands out is ‘jis race se mujhe nikalne ki baat kar rahe hain yeh bewakoof woh nahi jaante uss race ka sikander main hoon’. The dialogue, perhaps, has the same impact as the 'Teesre badshah hum hain' line from Shatrughan Sinha’s Kaala Patthar (1979).
Khan joins Race 3 as part of Anil Kapoor’s family. The senior actor has played the character of Robert D’Costa in the earlier films — Race (2008) and Race 2 (2011). He returns as Robert D’Costa, but what is his relationship with Sikander?
The rest of the cast — Bobby Deol, Saqeeb Saleem, Daisy Shah — also come across as part of one family. The true nature of their relationships will be known in the film, but from the trailer, it is apparent that there is someone in the family who perhaps has conspired against Sikander.
Director Remo D’Souza tells the gist of the story, but retains the suspense element.
Daisy Shah plays Sanjana, sporting a glam look, but her 'family business, none of your business' is cringeworthy. Similarly, Suraj (Saqib Saleem) referring to Sikander as Sikku will have you rolling on the floor.
Perhaps, the character that is largely underplayed in the trailer is that of Deol's Yash. He doesn’t have any punchy lines.
Race 3 has vintage Khan, plenty of action, family feuds and punchlines. While Khan as Sikander promises to be an explosive character, the rest of the new additions to the franchise make you interested in the film.
Race 3 will be released on 15 June.
