Taapsee Pannu's rugged look makes her perfect fit to play Sandeep Singh's wife in Soorma


The biopic on Indian hockey player, Sandeep Singh, and his wife, Harjinder Kaur, is set to be released on 13 July.

Actress Taapsee Pannu has released the motion poster of her upcoming film, Soorma. A biopic on the life of Indian hockey player, Sandeep Singh, the film has Pannu essaying the role of Singh's wife and international hockey player, Harjinder Kaur.

To be directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma will hit the screens on 13 July. The film will feature actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh as Singh.

“For my undying love for sports and my country. Meet Harpreet aka Preet – who believes in pushing the boundaries. Know her story on 13th July," Pannu tweeted as she shared the motion poster.

Pannu, who is trained in martial arts, looks fit in the motion poster and seems to be wearing the uniform of the Indian women's hockey team. To prepare for the part, the actress is said to have recieved a month-long training from Singh himself.

Interestingly, her characater is introduced as Harpreet instead of Harjinder Kaur. 

On 22 August 2006, Singh was accidentally shot on his leg while on his way to join the national team that was due to leave for the World Cup in two days. The incident left him on a wheel chair for two years. However, Singh recovered and joined the national team and was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2010.

Singh and Harjinder Kaur got married in 2008.
