The surprising success of Luv Ranjan's Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018) has elevated the director's status in the industry. This time around, he doesn't have his lucky mascots Kartik Aaryan and Nushrat Bharucha in the film. So far, the trio have worked in every film directed by Ranjan since Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011).
Instead, this untitled film will star Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor. The two actors were earlier seen together in Prakash Jha's Raajneeti (2010).
Devgn is already starring in another Ranjan production, a rom-com co-starring Tabu, and directed by editor Akiv Ali. The film, written by Ranjan, is due to be shot extensively in Himachal Pradesh and London. Besides these two films, Devgn will be seen with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in Indra Kumar's Total Dhamaal (2018).
Ranbir Kapoor, meanwhile, is gearing up for one of the biggest films of his career, the Sanjay Dutt biopic, Sanju (2018), directed by Rajkumar Hirani. He is also shooting for Ayan Mukerji's superhero-saga Brahmastra with Alia Bhatt and is expected to begin shooting for the dacoit-drama Shamshera (2019) later this year.
The new project is expected to go on floors next year.
