Director Mansoor Khan’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) completed 30 years on 29 April. The evergreen film was celebrated at a grand event on 12 May in Mumbai's Matterden Carvinal Cinema, previously called Deepak Talkies. Actor Aamir Khan and singer Udit Narayan lead a funny rendezvous at the event.
Composer duo Anand-Milind’s music played a great role in the success of the film. 'Papa Kehte Hain', 'Ae Mere Humsafar', 'Gazab Ka Hai Din', and 'Akele Hain To Kya Gham Hai' songs are still favourites of many a fans. As Narayan had sung all songs for Aamir Khan, the film turned out to be a milestone for him too, and he came to be known as the voice of Khan for years to come. “Whatever I am today is because of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak,” the singer said.
While the guests were being introducer, Narayan was requested to sing a few lines from the classic ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ song. He jokingly responded saying, “I will sing only on one condition. These days Aamir saheb doesn’t use my voice to sing for him.”
A surprised Khan went up to Narayan to give him a hug, and said, “Meri yeh jurrat? [How could I dare do that?] I started off with Udit ji. Neither was I able to control my directors then, nor can I do that now,” pointing towards Vijay Krishna Acharya, director of Khan's upcoming film Thugs Of Hindostan.
After Narayan finally obliged and sang the ‘Ae Mere Humsafar' song, he once again teased the actor saying, “My voice is still correct for you.”
While we could not agree less, it should be noted that Narayan sang for Khan after almost 13 years, even though at an event. The singer last sang for Khan for Ketan Mehta's Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005).
