The teaser, clocking in at just over a minute, establishes Varanasi as the setting of the story. It also introduces us to Gupta's Noor, a child widow, who wishes to play Holi again. Living alongside Noor in the city are a bunch of street children, among them, Choti. She and Noor strike up a friendship with a promise to play Holi.
However, a tragic incident which Choti witnesses threatens to disrupt their joyous plan. Will the two finally be successful? The teaser declares that the film is "a victory of the human spirit", and therefore instills a seed of hope within viewers.
The Michelin star chef was inspired to make The Last Color after seeing a photograph of an older woman lying on the ground in Holi colours in Varanasi by Susannah Ireland.
