Actress Sagarika Ghatge, who is still known for her role as India’s women hockey team captain Preeti Sabharwal from Chak De! India (2007), will be seen in another sports film. This time it’s a film revolving around football, titled Monsoon Football. In the film, she will lead a team of housewives who form a football team.
Directed by Milind Ukey, the film will be a bilingual in Marathi and Hindi.
Ghatge is happy to do a sports film again. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, she said, “After Chak De! India I’ve come to be associated with sports films so it’s nice to do one again. I studied in boarding school and played a lot of sports growing up, but football was not something I played often. Being a sportsperson, I’m excited to kickstart my training soon.”
Ghatge married former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan last November. Being a sportsperson himself, he encouraged her to sign the film. “I always take his inputs because he has a mind of his own. At the end of my day I take my own decisions. When I shared this news with him, he told me that if I liked the script I should go ahead with it,” she added.
Ghatge was last seen in the Hindi film Irada (2017). Her last Marathi film was the superhit Premachi Goshta (2013), where she was paired opposite Atul Kulkarni.
Monsoon Football will start rolling from July.
