Actress Kangana Ranaut memorably visited the French capital, Paris, in Queen (2014) as she embarked on her honeymoon after being jilted by her fiance. In the film, her character was a naive, sheltered young girl.
For her first visit to the Cannes International Film Festival, Ranaut has chosen to wear a black sequinned sari by Sabyasachi Mukherjee for her red carpet debut. According to the designer, the sari is called ‘Aakash-tara’ (meaning starry skies) and "is hand-dyed and embellished with hand-cut sequins that are individually sewn using zardosi technique, to create a metallic, yet fluid fabric".
Mukherjee's Instagram page stated that Ranaut's look was further accessorised with a batua (purse) from Sabyasachi and the actress wore a ‘teenmaniya’ necklace, from the Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry Collection, made with rose-cut diamonds, Colombian emeralds and basra pearls.
Ranaut's hair and makeup is a nod to old Hollywood, especially Audrey Hepburn and her iconic little black dress, mixed in with a traditional sari. It is a fantastic debut for the actress who will next be seen as the Rani Laxmibai in Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi (2018) later this year.
Ranaut is representing the liquor brand Grey Goose, along with Huma Qureshi and Jim Sarbh, that will celebrate cinematic excellence tthrough its global platform Vive Le Cinema. Grey Goose is an official celebration partner at the festival.
