Ranbir Kapoor will be seen playing Sanjay Dutt in his biopic, titled Sanju. However, the actors' connection will not stop at this. Yash Raj Films’s (YRF) has roped in Dutt to play villain to Kapoor in their upcoming action drama Shamshera. Kapoor’s dacoit will be pitted against Dutt's ferocious antagonist.
While speaking with DNA, a newspaper, on the reasons for signing the film, Dutt said, “When I heard Karan’s [Malhotra, director] idea to pit Ranbir against me, I thought it was brilliant. I look forward to shooting this incredibly exciting film, my second with the hugely-talented Karan Malhotra.”
Interestingly, this will be the first time in Dutt's 40-year long acting career that he will work in a Yash Raj Films project. “My father and Yash (Chopra) uncle were close friends and now that I’m doing my first YRF film, it is an extremely emotional moment for me,” he added.
According to the report, since Kapoor’s character in the film is ferocious, the makers of Shamshera needed someone who could appear more fierce, hence Dutt was considered for the role.
Shamshera will be directed by Karan Malhotra, known for films like Agneepath (2012) and Brothers (2015). Both these films were produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
