Nearly four decades after the horror film Neeya (1979), which featured Kamal Haasan and Sri Priya in the lead and which emerged a blockbuster, was made, another film by the same title and on a much bigger scale is now being produced.

The film, titled Neeya 2, is being directed by L Suresh.

Suresh said, “The grandeur will not be gaudy. The script demands such elements and they will definitely be a great experience for the audiences."

The director disclosed that one of the highlights would be a 22-feet serpent that will be seen in an important role throughout the film.

"To make sure we got a serpent as we had imagined, the film's cinematographer and I had to travel across different places in India and Thailand. Finally, we happened to find one exactly in Bangkok. It took enough time to understand its physique, body language and nature. We’re sure it’s appearance and presence throughout the film will be an enjoyable experience for the audiences.”

Speaking about the cast and crew, director Suresh said, “Jai plays the lead in this film and will be seen in two different dimensions. Varalaxmi will be seen as a snake woman, while Rai Laxmi and Catherine Tresa will be seen in the other lead roles. Bala Saravanan and many more prominent actors too play important characters in the film. The first schedule happened in Pondicherry. Other schedules will happen in Talakonam, Chennai, Madurai and Chalakudi.”

Neeya 2 will be a violent and passionate love story, which is being produced on a budget of Rs10 crore. Jumbo Cinemas' A Sridhar, who has considerable experience in film production, will produce the film.
