Actors Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut have been roped in together in a film titled Mental Hai Kya. The film and its cast was announced today while a couple of posters featuring the two leads were also released. Produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, the film is directed by Prakash Kovelamudi.
In India, the word ‘mental’ is often used as a substitute for ‘mad’ or ‘crazy.’ Hence, the title Mental Hai Kya translates to ‘Are You Mad/Crazy?’
The first posters completely live up to the title as both Ranaut and Rajkummar are seen giving mad expressions, especially through their eyes. Although the posters look funny, there were earlier reports that the film is a psychological thriller.
It's time to bring out the crazy in you..

This is the second time the two actors are cast together after the iconic Queen (2014), which was helmed by Vikas Bahl.
This is Kovelamudi’s Hindi directorial debut. He has helmed three Telugu films till date — Bommalata (2006), Anaganaga O Dheerudu (2011) and Size Zero (2015). The 2006 film won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu. Size Zero, which starred Anushka Shetty, speaks about the prejudice people face for not being in proper shape.
Mental Hai Kya is written by Kovelamudi’s wife Kanika Dhillon, who had also penned Ra.One (2011) and Size Zero. She is also an author.
