After actress Sridevi’s body was cremated on 28 February, her husband Boney Kapoor and other members of the Kapoor family — Anil, Sanjay and Sonam — put out statements asking the public to allow the family time to grieve in peace.
Today, as her ashes were immersed in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, her home state, Sridevi and Boney's eldest daughter, Janhvi, made an official statement on Instagram by penning an emotional note to her "everything", her mother.
Prefacing the note with a plea, Janhvi stated that her birthday wish (she turns 21 on 6 March) is for everyone to love and cherish her parents' relationship.
Additionally, she pleaded the public not to cast any suspicions on her parents’ marriage, “I ask that you remember my mother fondly, pray for her soul to rest in peace. Let the love and adulation you’ve showered on her continue and please know that the biggest part of my mother was the love she shared with papa. And their love is immortal because there was nothing like it in the whole world. Nothing as joyful and pure and no two people as devoted to one another as they were. Please respect that because it hurts to think anyone would ever try to tarnish it.”
She went on to say that it mattered the most to her mother to give love and be loved. Asking everyone to follow her lead, she wrote, “Let’s be full of only good and give only love. That would make her happy, to know that even in death, she gave you all something.”
Finally, she thanked everyone for their love and support. She stated it has given her, Khushi and her father, Boney, hope and strength to carry on.
In the letter, Janhvi spoke of her mother being a blessing for the family.
She wrote of their special relationship as mother and daughter and expressed her desire to make her mother proud even more now.
"Nothing anyone said mattered, no problem was big enough, and no day could ever be dull because I had you. And you loved me. And I didn't have to rely on anyone or anything because the only person I ever needed was you. You are a part of my soul. My best friend. My reason for everything. Your whole life you kept giving, and all I wanted was to do that for you too, Mumma. I want to make you so proud. Every morning, all that I would do was with the hope that one day you'd be as proud of me as I was of you. But I promise I'll wake up every day still with that same thought," she wrote.
She ended the poignant letter with a bittersweet note saying, “The imprint you've left on us is so strong, it might just be enough to keep us going, but never enough to be fully whole.”
Janhvi makes her Hindi film debut with Dhadak (2018), opposite Ishaan Khattar, which is due to be released on 6 July 2018.
