She was my childhood: Priyanka Chopra remembers Sridevi in TIME magazine tribute

Actress Priyanka Chopra is one of the many fans across the globe paying tribute to Sridevi after her untimely death a week ago.

Writing a tribute for the TIME magazine, Chopra wrote of her childhood idol, “Sridevi Kapoor shared an intimate relationship with the camera, and it loved her like no other, passionately capturing every aspect of that expressive face and her equally expressive frame. She loved it back with equal force.”

She shared her writeup on Twitter, stating that Sridevi would be “forever in hearts”.

In the heartfelt tribute, Chopra noted how everyone wanted to be like Sridevi. “She could be childlike, grown up, funny, serious, beguiling, sexy —she was the ultimate actor. Sridevi leaves behind a legacy that will live beyond us all, a legacy built on the foundation of pure dedication, talent, hard work and a sprinkle of fairy dust that was showered on her by the Gods!,” she wrote.

The actress added that Sridevi “was my childhood, and one of the big reasons I became an actor.”

Chopra, who is currently in the US filming the third season of her American television show, Quantico, could not pay her respects in person at Sridevi’s funeral held in Mumbai on 28 February.

She also shared how the news of Sridevi’s death in Dubai “immobilized” her. She said she listened Sridev’s film songs and watched her iconic scenes over and over again.

She also wrote of her special, and unfortunately, the last meet with Sridevi, on Chopra's lastest visit to India in December. The two actresses met at an awards function where Chopra was performing.

“In the frenzy of flashbulbs and whirring cameras, she pulled me into a tight hug and spoke lovingly and excitedly about her two daughters, Jhanvi [sic] and Khushi. Her family was her life. She left me feeling warm and fuzzy, and with a promise to meet again. But angels don’t pass on. They just shine brighter in another realm — so I will always look out for her in the sky,” she penned.

Chopra ended her TIME magazine tribute with a simple line, “Forever your fan”, after thanking Sridevi for leaving behind some magical movie memories.
