Success is a double-edged sword, confesses Varun Dhawan

Success, they say, comes at a price. Varun Dhawan is evidently finding out the truth to the adage. In his recent interview with the daily, Hindustan Times, the actor confessed that it 'is very difficult to keep going' with stardom.

In a detailed interview, the star of Shoojit Sircar's upcoming film, October, spoke about the need for choosing such different films, and the difficulty of balancing his personal and professional lives.

While Dhawan's unbeatable record at the box office (nine films without a single flop) is impressive, the actor said it came at a price.

"There’s no time for family or loved ones and that’s worse than anything in the world — to let down my mom or dad, because I can’t give them time; to let down any cousin who’s unwell and I’m not able to see them... that’s way more disheartening than anything else. I just feel that now, I’m not there [for them] anymore."

Dhawan admitted that while he does spend time for his fans and the audience, it is not possible to have it all. "No matter how hard I try, I do end up disappointing a lot of people and I know I have to live with that," he said.

The actor, who is currently on a break from the shoot of Sharat Katariya's Sui Dhaaga, also admitted that his personal life has taken a beating due to his constant work schedule.

"Really? Is this what it looks like, that everything is rosy? Even I’ve had my shares of lows. Very recently, my personal life was in a big dilemma, and I was going through a lot of other issues that took me time to come to terms with."

This sobriety does have an advantage though. In Sircar's upcoming film, the actor plays a sombre, workaholic young man who discovers a new meaning to his life after a close friend suffers an accident.

"A lot of people asked me why am I doing this film at this stage , when I have done 100-crore budget films? But, I was looking for something very real in my career; and when I heard this story, it came from such a different space," he said.

In addition to Sui Dhaaga, Dhawan is also set to begin work on Remo D'Souza's third instalment of the ABCD franchise. It looks like an exciting year up ahead for the actor.
