October song 'Tab Bhi Tu': Tanveer Ghazi’s fine lyrics let down by Anupam Roy's average music

Shoojit Sircar's October seems like a film with serious drama, therefore it would be wrong to expect Varun Dhawan play the usual chirpy character. The film has a grim theme and that is likely to reflect in its music, too.

The makers released the 'Tab Bhi Tu' song from the film today (28 March) and the slow ballad rides on the theme of ‘love forever’.

While the lyrics do not follow a rhyme scheme, Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics possess a poetic feel. The song sounds is like someone is reciting a poem. One wouldn’t call it classic poetry, but Ghazi’s lyrics are thought provoking. It may not really appeal to the laymen but poetry lovers will lend a patient ear to the track.

The problem with song is the uninspiring score by Anupam Roy that fails to do justice to the lyrics. Were the lyrics too difficult to produce a neat, rhythmic score for the track?

It is not often that singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's performance is called a disappointment. But the uninspiring score has Khan deliver a flat performance.

Khan has earlier given us gems likes 'Aaj Din Chadeya' from Love Aaj Kal (2009), 'Dagabaaz Re' from Dabangg (2010). 'Tab Bhi Tu' is a far cry from these soulful numbers.

The sombre track fittingly has grim visuals with Dan (David Dhawan) and Shiuli (Banita Sandhu) displaying the sombre mood of their characters pretty well. The makers have also repeated a few shots from the trailer released before.

Though 'Tab Bhi Tu' song is saved by its lyrics, there is nothing to rave about the track. Nonetheless, there is always an audience for everything.

October is set to be released on 13 April.
