Mahesh Manjrekar's return to Hindi cinema, after 13 years, might not be with Sanjay Dutt, but with an actor just as brawny. Vidyut Jammwal has been reportedly roped in to play the lead in Manjrekar's upcoming Hindi film.
His last Hindi film was Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005), starring the Shahid Kapoor. Since then, he has solely focussed on directing Marathi films, with the exception of a few cameo appearances in Hindi cinema. The director has won acclaim in Marathi cinema through films like Kaksparsh (2012) and Natsamrat (2016).

However, he has reportedly held narrations with Jammwal, and is set to take the film on the floors. Mumbai Mirror, a tabloid, quoted producer Vijay Galani as saying, "We have had several narrations with Vidyut over the last four months and he loved the script. He plays a well-educated and suave NRI, who, after returning to his hometown of Mumbai, gets caught in a tricky situation. His look completely changes in the film as he gets kicking and punching."
The film will also mark the reunion of Naseeruddin Shah and Amol Palekar on screen. The two actors had last collaborated on Palekar's directorial Paheli (2005). In the past, the two actors were seen together on screen for several films like Bhumika (1977) and Khamosh (1985), among others.
The yet untitled film is expected to be shot in and around the city of Mumbai.
