Indian horror films are often amusing. Maybe that is why our filmmakers don't make 'horror comedies'. The comedy is inevitable.

Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Again (2017) was a rare instance of a horror comedy, and it also worked at the box office. Sajid Khan's Housefull 4 is said to be a horror comedy, too. Indra Kumar’s Great Grand Masti (2016), however, failed to live up to its hype and became a horror for the producers.

Now Abhay Deol has been bitten by the horror comedy bug. His next film, Nanu Ki Jaanu, is getting set for release. The producers released the film's trailer this evening.

So, we have Nanu (Deol) whose apartment is haunted by a female ghost. Dabbu (Manu Rishi Chadha) is Nanu’s flatmate. The duo appear to be hired guns who coerce people into selling their land or flat. But the once feared thug Nanu is now running scared in his own house. The question is, who is this ghost that is haunting his residence? We see Siddhi (Patralekhaa) dancing with Nanu. Is Siddhi the ghost?

There is nothing novel about the plot which is said to be an adaptation, we don't know yet from where.

While the story offers nothing new, the trailer is certainly filled with lighthearted spooky moments that generate laughs and create some intrigue around the film. Beyond that, the trailer fails to hold your imagination.

Fans, however, will be glad to see Manu Rishi Chadha and Deol reunite. In the past, the duo have delivered some fine comedies likes Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008) and Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016).

The thick beard, short hair and petrified look on Deol’s face are something we haven't seen before. Age, too, is beginning to catch up on the 42-year-old actor.

It is nice to see the talented Patralekhaa, who made a mark with her debut film Citylights (2014), once again. She was last seen in Vikram Bhatt’s Love Games (2016). Fans will hope she has been cast in a more meaningful role here.

Directed by Faraz Haider, Nanu Ki Jaanu is set to be released on 20 April. Enjoy the trailer below.
