Nude trailer: Director Ravi Jadhav's bold experiment promises to break shackles

The Kalyanee Mulay-starrer boasts of high quality visual narration.

The teaser of director Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi movie Nude generated a lot of interest. Now, the trailer of the film continues to show promise, making you wait keenly for the film.

Nude is the story of a Yamuna (Kalyanee Mulay) who hails from the Konkan region of Maharashtra and stays with her husband and son. After her husband cheats on her, she leaves the village with her son and migrates to Mumbai. She stays with her aunt, who works as a nude artist at JJ School of Arts. Due to a financial crunch and encouragement from her aunt, Yamuna also starts working as a nude artist.

The trailer shows how Jadhav has resorted to the kind of artistic visual narration he used in his last film Mitraa (which was one of the four short films in Bioscope, 2015). The scene where Mulay pulls out the mangalsutra from her neck and the beads fall to the ground is the best of the lot. It symbolizes the commencement of the journey of an independent woman without the social compulsion of being a 'married woman'.

Mulay seems to have delivered a dedicated performance. And as expected from an acting legend like Naseeruddin Shah, his cameo looks like a promising one.

The film also touches on the issue of self-appointed custodians of culture who oppose works that they see as bold and irreverant.

Nude recently bagged the honour of being the first Marathi film to be selected as the opening film of Indo-American Art Council’s New York Indian Film Festival.

Produced by Zee Studios and Meghana Jadhav, Nude is all set to be released on 27 April.
