Actress Vidya Balan picked up a Filmfare trophy (her sixth) for best actress for her performance in Tumhari Sulu (2017) in January this year. She hasn't announced her next project as yet, but it looks like the actress could be making her Telugu film debut with the biopic on filmmaker-turned-politician, NT Rama Rao.
NTR, as he was popularly known, joined Telugu films with Mana Desam (1949). The actor was famous for his roles as Lord Krishna and Ram in several mythological films. He joined politics in 1982 and founded the Telugu Desam Party. He was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1983 to 1995.
The biopic is going to be directed by Teja. Vidya is likely to play NT Rama Rao's first wife, Basava Tarakam. She passed away from cancer in 1985 and NTR opened the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad the next year. They had 12 children — eight sons and four daughters.
Besides actor Nandamuri Balakrishna who will play NTR Rao's late father, no other cast has yet been announced. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has also been planning to make an alternate biopic on NTR. This film would be shown from the perspective of his second wife, Lakshmi Parvathi.
