Blackmail song 'Bewafa Beauty': Urmila Matondkar back with trademark jhatkas and matkas

The actress lights up the screen in this Amit Trivedi composition, set in a dance bar.

Suparna Thombare

Actress Urmila Matondkar has rocked many dance numbers with her grace and style in her heydays — from 'Rangeela Re' in Rangeela (1995) to 'Chamma Chamma' in China Gate (1998). Now she is back on screen dancing to a Hindi film song after ages, with 'Bewafa Beauty' from Irrfan Khan-starrer Blackmail.

While the song picturisation isn't unique in any way, it is still refreshing. And that's because it does not focus on skin show and thumping signature moves, but sex appeal through grace and expressions. Despite being set in a dance bar, it does not have any vulgar camera angles or dance steps.

Blackmail song 'Badla': Irrfan Khan, DIVINE go hammer and rage against 'bitchy' world

Obviously, it is Matondkar's presence that lifts the song. The actress looks lovely in a shimmery sari and slays with her jhatkas and matkas.

Composed by Amit Trivedi, the song is an earthy composition that goes with the theme of the film, and so do the lyrics — 'Bewafa beauty ishq mein cheating kar gayi' (a beautiful betrayer has cheated on me in love), say the lines written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. It also has quite an authentic dance bar vibe, with minimal beats and use of synthesiser.

Singer Pawani Pandey, who has rocked numbers like 'Laila Main Laila' from Raees (2017) and 'Sweety Tera Drama' from Barielly Ki Barfi (2017) in recent times, is the perfect choice for this song.

Starring Khan and Kirti Kulhari, director Abhinay Deo's Blackmail will be released in theatres on 6 April.
