Raj Thackeray targets 'Canadian citizen' Akshay Kumar for acting in 'government films'

In his much hyped public gathering in Mumbai last evening, politician Raj Thackeray slammed actor Akshay Kumar for being a 'Canadian citizen'. The chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also slammed the actor for doing ‘government sponsored films’.

“The recent films like Pad Man (2018) and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) are sponsored by the party ruling the government [BJP]. And the person doing such films is Akshay Kumar, who is the Manoj Kumar of this era. He keeps doing films on Bharat (India),” said Thackeray.

He added, “But let me tell you something about Akshay Kumar. The person who keeps preaching about India and keeps working in government films is not an Indian citizen. He is the citizen of Canada. He has a Canadian passport. If you have a mobile phone, open Wikipedia and you will see that it’s mentioned that he is ‘India-born Canadian actor.’”

During the course of his speech, Thackeray also said, “I have nothing against Akshay Kumar. He is a good actor; his work is good.”

Last year during the success press conference of Jolly LLB 2 (2017), when Akshay was asked about his alleged Canadian citizenship, he had said, “It is just an honorary title. It doesn’t mean much.”
