Nawazuddin’s lawyer accuses crime branch of illegal arrest

Hours after being arrested by the Thane crime branch for allegedly spying on actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife, lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui has issued a statement claiming that he has been arrested ‘illegally.’

The lawyer has claimed that his statement to the crime branch in relation to the CDR (Call Data Record) scam was not verified by the police with his client (Nawazuddin).

“My statement was already recorded on the 23 February 2018 in the presence of my client's brother Mr Shamasuddin Siddiqui. They did not corroborate the said statement with my client nor did they bother to follow up with my said client for reasons best known to the police,” he said.

He further accused the police of not letting him take permission from the Bar Council to produce the recording as an evidence in court.

“I had already served a letter to the police to let me take the permission of [sic] the bar council before submitting evidence. However, despite cooperation and despite showing evidences, the officer in charge did not pay any heed to that and has arrested me illegally without following the due process of law for reasons best known to him,” Rizwan added.

He was arrested by the Thane crime branch for allegedly obtaining the CDRs of Nawazuddin’s wife’s mobile phone illegally.
