Almost a decade after making her television debut with the hit series Pavitra Rishta, Ankita Lokhande will finally make her film debut with Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, where Kangana Ranaut is playing the lead character.
Lokhande’s first look from the film is out. The actress is playing the character of Jhalkaribai. She is dressed in a green saree, which makes her look gorgeous. Her expressions add to the beauty of the picture.
Jhalkaribai played a key role in the rebellion of 1857. She was a part of Lakshmibai’s women's army and gradually became the commander. She ultimately rose to be her prominent advisor. During the mutiny of 1857, she once disguised as Lakshmibai and fought on her behalf in order to let the queen safely out of danger.
Jhalkaribai’s heroism and character is praised in the folklore of Bundelkhand. Her statue stands tall in Gwalior, while the government of India has also issued stamps in her name. Her statue in Guru Tegh Bahadur Complex in Bhopal was unveiled last November by the President of India, Ramnath Kovind.
The Archaeology Survey of India is also building a statue of Jhalkaribai in Jhansi.
Manikarnika is directed by Krish, who had helmed the Akshay Kumar-starrer Gabbar Is Back (2014).
