Actress Rani Mukerji, whose film Hichki will be released on 23 March, has been asking fellow artistes to talk about their biggest hichkis (hiccups/hurdles) that they overcame.
Fellow actor and good friend Shah Rukh Khan said, "The greatest Hichki moment I can think of is the death of my parents. I was 15 when my father died, my mother died when I was 24. That left a void in my life. I didn't know what to do. So, I felt that I need to fill this void. There were so many sentiments attached, so I kept that pain in me, but because you need to take that pain out, you need to vent out the emotions."
Khan found acting as a way to fill that void. “I was fortunate to get a break in acting. For me acting is not a profession. For me acting is that little vent where I can express my sorrow, happiness, the little memories attached with my parents, I can express those through celluloid, or vent them out slowly. I always tell my family that if there’s a day when I vent out all those emotions and then I’d probably give up acting for I won’t have anything more to give. Whenever that happens, there is no coming back from there,” added Khan.
The Raees actor felt that God takes away a life, but he also provides you means to overcome it. “This will remain with me forever, but I cannot let that bog me down for the rest of my life. God takes a life, but he also paves the path for you to overcome such a hichki. For me that would the moment of hichki which God has helped me overcome,” he said.
Mukerji had earlier opened up about her own hichki. She used to stammer as a child, and she feared her voice was perhaps not suited for films. She was also insecure of her short height. Mukerji overcame it all to emerge as a successful actress.
Khan and Mukerji have worked together in films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Chalte Chalte (2003).
