Actress Kajol went down memory lane yesterday (14 March) and posted a picture of her great-grandmother, Ratanbai Shilotri, and grandmother, Shobhana Samarth, on Twitter. Both the women were a part of the film industry.
Shilotri appeared in one Marathi film as Shivaji's mother, Swarajyacha Simevar (1937), known in English as Frontiers Of Freedom. Samarth joined films after her maririage and debuted with the Marathi/Hindi bilingual social, directed by Master Vinayak, Nigaah-E-Nafrat (1935), as Princess Indira.
The Dilwale (2015) actress, captioned the picture, writing, "My great grand mother and my grandmother ... aji! Two women who taught me about what feminism actually means without ever discussing it."

Kajol is a fourth-generation actress from the family. Samarth's daughters, Nutan and Tanuja, also became actresses and so did their respective children. Nutan's son Mohnish Bahl and Tanuja's daughters, Kajol and Tanisha made their name in the Hindi film industry.
Kajol is currently filming Eela, directed by Pradeep Sarkar and written by Anand Gandhi. The film is due to be released this year.
