Actor Varun Dhawan was asked if he agreed with actor Shah Rukh Khan's views that stars should take a pay cut, at a promotional event for his upcoming film, October.

"I think it's true. He also produces his own films, so he is also creatively involved. One of the pioneers as an actor... Aur jo wo keh rahe hai sahi keh rahe hai ke paise ka [what SRK says about fees is right]. The money should not control the creative part of the film. Jitna paisa aap script pe ya film pe daal sake wo behtar hoga [it would be better that one invest more money on the script]. And I think you can work that out," Dhawan said at the trailer launch of October (2018).

Dhawan underlined that he has never faced a problem with any producers over his fees. “I never faced this problem when I work in a film. I want to see that everyone is safe; the producers are also happy making the film and then you can go ahead," added Dhawan.

Khan has been struggling with his last three films – Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017), Raees (2017) and Fan (2016) — all failing to make good business. Though not confirmed, there were reports that he returned a certain portion of his money to NH Studioz after Jab Harry Met Sejal suffered huge losses.

Dhawan is among the most bankable young actors today. His last two films — Judwaa 2 (2017) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) — crossed well over Rs100 crore nett at the box office.
