At the music launch of Aniket Chattopadhyay’s upcoming thriller Kabir on Thursday, actor and producer Dev Adhikari announced that he would produce his next film based on the story of Padma Shri awardee, Subhasini Mistry.

The announcement was made to commemorate the 109th International Women’s Day. Mistry is known for her social work and her Humanity Hospital in Thakurpukur, Kolkata, founded for the needy and deprived in 1996.

The inspirational woman lost her husband when she was 23 years old. She not only raised her four children by working hard as a domestic maid, a manual labourer and a vegetable seller, but also kept engaging herself in charitable works. She was awarded the fourth highest civilian award this year.

“I think everyone should become aware of Subhasini Devi’s works. Her story is immensely inspiring,” said Adhikari.

“I have not had the minimum education. When my husband died I could not afford to make arrangements for his treatment. My children were small then. My only goal is to save parents and relatives from the sorrow I went through,” said Mistry.

Adhikari was also fascinated with her simple lifestyle and found it apt to turn it into a film.

Actress Arpita Chatterjee congratulated the actor and producer for his initiative in a tweet, stating: “I am extremely impressed and glad that you have again chosen a magnificent subject ‘Subhasini Mistry’ as your next venture. It feels great to see Bengali cinema in a different dimension. Best Wishes”.

The film will be directed by the Kabir director, Chattopadhyay.

Rukmini Maitra, the female protagonist of Kabir and Priyanka Sarkar, who also plays an important role in the film and music director Indradeep Dasgupta were also present at the event. Along with the release of the song 'Maula Re' from the film, the cast and crew also shared their shooting experiences in their first promotional event.
