Imtiaz Ali has set a template for his films over a decade long career, but the director looks to be heading for a change. A recent report by the PTI, a news agency, suggests that the director's next film might not revolve around travel, an important component of his past projects.
The report quoted Ali saying, "The film is a human story. It's in one place. If I can tell you one thing, it would be that it is not a travel-oriented film, which is a good thing for me, it will be different for me."
The film might also see the director return to an old collaboration with Shahid Kapoor. While Ali added that there has been no confirmation on the actor being a part of the film, he admitted that they have been talking.
"It's not really decided (when the movie goes on floors), even the casting isn't decided yet. Shahid and I have met and spoken about it but it's not as if we have decided and signed anything at all. There's nothing officially planned about it," Ali said.
At the recent FICCI Frames, the director had also admitted that he had previously worked on a script around India and China. He had said, "There is something about displacement there. It is about two cultures, about the obvious differences between them but also similarities. It's a character which crossed from one to the other. So I felt India and China could be interesting."
As for Kapoor, he is currently working on Shree Narayan Singh's Batti Gul Meter Chalu.
