Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi was admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital last evening. While news reports suggested that he was hospitalised for cardiac issues, his publicist has denied the same.
Officials at Nanavati Hospital confirmed Santoshi's admission to the hospital, but refused to specify the treatment he was undergoing.
“Mr Rajkumar Pyarelal Santoshi was admitted to the heart centre at 7.30pm last evening. He is being treated by Dr Vivek Mehan (cardiologist). His condition is stable now,” said an official from the hospital.
The filmmaker's publicist posted an update on Santoshi's health on her Facebook account. "Mr Rajkumar Santoshi is fine and does not have any heart or cardiac issues. He is in Nanavati for a routine check-up. I have spoken to him. He has requested that this story of him being unwell with cardiac issues be clarified [sic]," posted publicist Parull Gossain.
Santoshi has helmed films like Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and cult classic Andaz Apna Apna (1994). He is currently working on a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi starring Randeep Hooda.
