Parambrata Chatterjee’s Shonar Pahar to be released on 6 July instead of 8 June

Parambrata Chatterjee’s directorial debut Shonar Pahar, which was scheduled to hit the screens on 8 June, will be released on 6 July instead.

The film features veteran actress Tanuja. This will be her first Bengali film in three decades.

Shonar Pahar also introduces child artiste Sreejata Banerjee and has an ensemble cast of Jisshu Sengupta, Soumitra Chatterjee, Arunima Ghosh and the director himself.

The film revolves around an unusual friendship between the characters of Tanuja and Banerjee. Their on-screen chemistry from the trailer and song 'Akta Mon' have created much anticipation and the sudden decision of delaying the release of the film has come as a blow to the eager audience.

The director himself has not disclosed any particular reason behind the postponement. However, it is being speculated that the director took the call keeping in mind the commercial consequences of releasing the film this week.

While Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s Haami has already proved to be one of the longest running Bengali films of the year, Srijit Mukherji’s Uma has also bagged the major showtimes in the multiplexes and the single screens in and outside Kolkata.

In the midst of these two biggies, Shoukarya Ghosal’s critically acclaimed independent film Rainbow Jelly has already lost out and is currently running in only two multiplexes in the city. Therefore, Shonar Pahar’s postponement seems to be a wise decision.
