Kaushik Sen and Jisshu Sengupta will reportedly star in filmmaker Aparna Sen’s upcoming venture, Ghare Baire. Needless to say, the film will be a modern adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's 1916 novel with the same name.

In 1984, filmmaker Satyajit Ray first turned the literary work into a film with actress Swatilekha Sengupta in the lead as Bimala and actors Victor Banerjee and Soumitra Chatterjee as Nikhilesh and Sandip, respectively.

In Aparna Sen’s film, Kaushik Sen will essay the role of Nikhilesh, while Jisshu Sengupta will play Sandip. Actress Tuhina Das has been roped in for the character of Bimala.

The director strongly feels that the novel, set in the backdrop of Swadeshi movement in the early 20th century, is still as relevant in terms of the current political situation.

In the novel, Bimala is initially devoted to her aristocratic and not-so-political husband Nikhilesh. She rather enjoys staying detached from the world outside and revels in the inner sanctum of her house. However, it is the appearance of Nikhilesh’s radical friend Sandip that turns her world upside down. While Bimala develops complex feelings for Sandip, her outlook regarding life, politics, and her husband changes altogether.

Aparna Sen's aim is to set the complex love triangle in the modern day while retaining the timelessness of the novel.

The filmmaker has already begun workshops and the film is expected to go on floors soon.
