Actor Vijay today visited the families of those killed in the Thoothukudi police firing, which left 13 people dead and over 60 injured.
According to sources present on the occasion, the actor's visit was a low-key affair.
"He arrived on a two-wheeler. He sat on the pillion and silently came and met the families of the victims. He went to each of their houses and patiently listened to what they had to say. He consoled them and also handed over a sum of Rs1 lakh each," the source said.
The actor's visit to Thoothukudi was very different from the visits made by actors-turned-politicians Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth as their visits were extensively covered by the media.
Interestingly, Rajinikanth, who expressed his sympathy towards the families of those affected by the tragedy during the visit, later referred to the protestors as anti-social elements.
Vijay, who looks forward to becoming the Tamil Nadu chief minister someday, had also visited the family of an aspiring student, Anita, after she committed suicide last year, without any paparazzi. Although no journalists were present during the actor's visit to Thoothukudi, pictures of him meeting the families of the deceased and video clips of him consoling them have surfaced online.
