5 Weddings trailer: Rajkummar Rao, Nargis Fakhri and a complete lack of chemistry

The first international trailer shows Fakhri as an American journalist on a visit to India to write about Indian weddings.

After Banjo (2016), actress Nargis Fakhri will now be seen in an international production, titled 5 Weddings.

Going by the trailer of the film, Fakhri plays an American journalist from Orange county who has the opportunity to become the editor-in-chief of Sterling.com, if she can travel to India and write up a story on five Indian weddings. Her father being an Indian, Fakhri's character also gets the chance to revisit her roots.

When she lands in Punjab, she meets the police officer (Rajkummar Rao) responsible to escort her around. Naturally, sparks fly as they attend wedding after wedding. However, a twist arises when the journalist is drawn towards the stories of the hijras who attend weddings, something Rao's police officer does not want her to pursue.

This rom-com, produced and directed by Indian-American Namarata Singh Gujral, is littered with clichés and stereotypes about India and its people. The two leads, Rao and Fakhri, are pleasant to look at, but show no chemistry as a couple. The story also seems all over the place and presents its main character without much direction.

5 Weddings, presented by Vision Films, Amaash Films and UniGlobe Entertainment, also stars American actresses Candy Clark, as Fakhri's boss, and Bo Derek, as her mother.
