Actress Sonal Chauhan has been roped in as the second female lead in Mahesh Manjrekar’s next underworld drama, which is as yet untitled. The film stars Vidyut Jammwal and Shruti Haasan.

Interestingly, the film is based on the characters of the classic novel Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. A source said, "Sonal plays a very interesting role in the film. It’s something she has not portrayed on screen before. The movie is a gangster drama with the angle of Devdas, Paro and Chandramukhi. While Shruti will be Paro, Sonal will portray Chandramukhi."

Chauhan gained some fame with her debut film Jannat: In Search Of Heaven (2008). Apart from this film, she has only done two other Hindi films, Bbuddah... Hoga Tera Baap (2011) and 3G: A Killer Connection (2013). She has done a series of films down South, however.

Chauhan's comeback to Hindi cinema happened when she was signed for JP Dutta’s Paltan, which will be released this year.

The yet untitled gangster film marks Manjrekar’s comeback to Hindi cinema after 13 years. His last Hindi film was Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005).

Interestingly, the new film also marks the comeback of veteran Amol Palekar as an actor. His last Hindi film was way back in 2001, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks: The Reflection.

The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah.
